What is 40GOALS?

40GOALS is a free football draft game. You build one footballer from real players who land three at a time, then take him into a simulated Premier League season and try to finish as the Top Scorer.

How do I play?

Each spin shows three real players by name only. Pick one, put him in one of your ten attribute slots and lock him in; only then is his rating for that attribute revealed. Fill all ten slots, then play a season with the player you built. The How to Play page explains every step.

How are the player ratings created?

The ratings are FORMXI's own editorial opinions of each player's peak Premier League ability, rated out of 99 for each of the ten attributes. They are not official statistics and do not come from any league, club, player or data company.

Why are the ratings hidden?

Not knowing the numbers is the game. You decide from what you know about each footballer, and you only see a rating once you have locked that player into a slot. The players you skip are never revealed.

What is the difference between Classic and Strategic?

Both use the same players, ratings and rules. In Classic you only know the three players on the current spin. In Strategic you also see the names of the three players on the next spin before you place this one (their ratings stay hidden, and the final spin has no preview).

What are Wildcards?

Wildcards are an option you switch ON or OFF on the Home Screen before you start. When they are ON, one of the three options on a spin is sometimes a wildcard instead of a player: Elite Spin, Reroll or Transfer. Every build with Wildcards ON offers at least one wildcard and no more than three. OFF is the pure challenge.

How is my season simulated?

Over 38 matchdays, your player's ten attributes decide how many chances he gets and how well he takes them, with either foot, with his head or from distance, and how often he is fit to play. The overall rating itself is not used. Your rivals are real players from the game, at their real clubs and based on their real form in that season.

Can I choose the season or the club?

The season is drawn at random from ten Premier League seasons between 1995/96 and 2026/27. You then choose your club from three clubs offered from that season.

How does Top Scorer work?

When the season ends, the scorers are ranked by league goals. Finish first and you are the Top Scorer; finish level on goals with the leader and you are Joint Top Scorer.

What is the Era Challenge?

A second target for every season: score more goals than that season's real top scorer. For the most recent season, the target is the reigning Top Scorer's total from the season before.

What does "Can you score 40?" mean?

It is the headline challenge of the game: build a player who scores 40 or more league goals in a single season. There is an achievement for it, the 40 Club.

Is 40GOALS free?

Yes. There is nothing to buy and no account to create.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. 40GOALS is designed for phones first and also works on tablets and computers, in the web browser. There is no app to install.

Is my progress saved?

Your achievement progress is saved in the browser on your device. A build or a season in progress is not saved: if you refresh the page, you start again at the Home Screen. Clearing your browser data for this site also clears your achievements.

Can I play Europe or GOAT?

Not yet. They are shown on the Home Screen as Coming soon and cannot be played.

Is 40GOALS official?

40GOALS is an independent, unofficial game. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Premier League, any club, player or governing body.
